Privacy Policy

Summary

• The app has no accounts, no ads and no analytics.
• Speech recognition and translation run on your phone. The audio of the videos you watch and the captions made from it are never uploaded by the app.
• The developer does not collect, store or sell any personal data.

Audio and captions

To make captions, the app reads the sound of the video playing in the browser. That audio is turned into text and translated on your device, then discarded. It is not recorded, saved or sent anywhere.

Model downloads

On first use, and when you choose another model, the app downloads files to your phone:

• Speech recognition models, from Hugging Face (huggingface.co).
• Translation language packs, from Google through ML Kit.

These downloads are ordinary internet requests, so those services can see your IP address, as with any download. Google's ML Kit may also send Google basic diagnostic and usage information, such as the device model and how the API performs, as described in Google's ML Kit terms.

Browsing

The websites you visit work as they would in any browser. They can set cookies and collect data under their own privacy policies. Your browsing data (cookies, cache, site settings) is stored only on your device, and you can clear it from the system's app settings.

The built-in content blocker stops requests to known ad and tracker domains. It works on your device and does not report what you browse.

Permissions

• Microphone, camera, location: requested only when a website you are on asks for them. You decide for each site. The app itself does not use them.
• Internet and network state: used to load web pages and download models, and to ask before large downloads over mobile data.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.
